Kumbuk community
Our Mission
To create a soulful, sustainable environment that connects people to nature, traditional wisdom, and mindful living—through the power of plants, community, and slow, intentional living. We are dedicated to building and sharing educational knowledge that empowers individuals to cultivate harmony in their own lives and spaces.
Our Vision
A world where every home and shared space becomes a sanctuary—nourishing the body, calming the mind, and honoring the natural rhythms of life and the land. We envision a future where ecological balance and time-honored practices are the foundation of vibrant, thriving communities.
What is Kumbuk?
The Kumbuk tree (Terminalia arjuna) is a symbol of life and purification. One of the tree’s remarkable features is its ability to purify water. Often planted around water bodies and wells, the Kumbuk tree helps filter and improve the quality of water, making it an essential part of sustainable water management in rural communities.
Just like the Kumbuk tree, Kumbuk Community creates an environment for the purification of body, mind, and soul. Our businesses serve as educational hubs, offering products, practices, and insights that filter out the noise of modern life and bring people back to their natural state of balance and clarity.
Our Offerings and Educational Businesses
Kumbuk Community is actively building its vision through several interconnected businesses, each designed to share knowledge and foster mindful living:
-
Holistic Villa Retreat: A tranquil space created to heal people and help guests reconnect with nature, body, and soul through intentional rest and restorative practices.
-
Ayurveda & Food Culture Cooking Classes: Sharing the profound wisdom of food culture and Ayurveda, teaching people how to prepare meals that are both nourishing and rooted in tradition.
-
Herbal Walks & Indigenous Farming: Guided experiences where we share the principals of indigenous farming and herbal gardening, connecting participants directly to the sustainable cycles of the land.
-
The Kumbuk Cafe: A place for sharing our family approach, serving traditional Sri Lankan meals cooked from the best natural ingredients and herbal teas that nourish the body and soul.
-
Farming Consulting: Our personalized service where we visit businesses and family houses to create nourishing gardens tailored for well-being, body, and soul.
Planting a Future Together
Rooted in a shared love for the Earth, we are a community of family, friends, and companions—human and animal—dreaming of a life in harmony with nature.
Our ultimate long-term vision is to create a fully self-sustainable village in Sri Lanka: a place where the jungle is replanted, native traditions are honored, and conscious living can flourish in connection, awareness, and care.
This village will not only be a living example of ecological design and regenerative farming but also a practical, hands-on learning center. We plan to document, practice, and share the knowledge gathered here—from ancient sustainable building techniques to holistic wellness and regenerative agriculture—making this wisdom accessible to the wider world.
Our Guiding Principles
Every facet of the Kumbuk Community and its businesses is founded upon the following core principles:
-
Deep Sustainability: Committing to ecological balance in all decisions, from sourcing ingredients to designing spaces.
-
Profound Respect: Honoring the Earth, traditional wisdom, our community members, and every individual we serve.
-
Family and Community: Operating with an open, supportive, and inclusive approach, treating every person with the care and sincerity of family.
-
Spiritual Business: Conducting all operations with intention and mindfulness, focusing on the well-being and upliftment of body, mind, and soul over purely commercial gain.
Kumbuk Community is more than just a project; it's an invitation to return to intentional living. We are cultivating a living model of sustainability, built on respect, traditional wisdom, and the sincere spirit of family. While our roots are in Sri Lanka, our hope is to inspire you, wherever you are, to look inward and embrace your own local heritage. We believe that by celebrating and decolonizing your local culture and time-honored practices, you can create a sanctuary for your community and contribute to a better world for everyone.
We invite you to join us on this journey! Follow us on our social media channels to witness our growth, support our current projects, and be inspired to plant your own future.
